Corolla Wedding :: Megan + Kyle

October 27, 2012  |  Wedding Photography

Megan and Kyle’s wedding day could easily be summed up with two words – intimate and colorful. It was the perfect backyard beach wedding filled with breathtaking and meaningful details – lots of details! Everything from the banner flags hanging around the wooden fence to the flowers and food was created with incredible creativity and care. It was the perfect day for such a fun and colorful couple to celebrate their love for each other.

Gertrudes’s Breakaway :: Kristin + Tommy

July 17, 2012  |  Wedding Photography

Kristin and Tommy were two of the most emotional and genuine couples we have ever photographed – and we loved every minute of their wedding. It was full of tears and laughter and most of all – love.

When we first met Kristin and Tommy the day before their wedding for their Love Story interview we told them that sometimes couples cry during the interview we do. We told them not to worry though and work through the tears. Seconds into the interview the tears were already starting to flow as Tommy and Kristin started sharing their Love Story. From that moment on we knew we were photographing a couple that was madly in love and weren’t afraid to show it. Just how in tune are Kristin and Tommy? Unknown to them they bought the same cards for each other. It was only until they both opened them did they realize it. To them it wasn’t much of a surprise and just confirmed how in tune they truly are.

Their wedding happened in 100+ heat but the heat only served to enhance their beautiful beach wedding. After a heartfelt ceremony Kristin and Tommy along with all their guests walked to the ocean’s edge with a seashell in hand and while making a wish threw their shell into the Atlantic. With wishes made, it was time for a night of dancing and laughter. Kristin and Tommy along with their guests danced the night away with a sense of a purpose. And rightfully so they had a beautiful couple to celebrate.

As the night came to a close the day ended as any 100+ day should – with a belly flop contest in the pool!

Kitty Hawk Pier Wedding :: Kristen + Greg

April 25, 2012  |  Wedding Photography

April 19, 2012 – Kristen and Greg met at a friend’s wedding and immediately hit it off. A week after, Greg traveled to Australia and called Kristen three times while he was gone and this started a relationship that ended in two best friends getting married on the beach.

The two love to travel and have been to Chile, Argentina, Brazil, BVI and many others. They knew a beach wedding on the Outer Banks would be a perfect semi-destination for their friends and family. Kristen said they wanted their wedding to be fun and flirty and knew Renee Landry would be the one to make that all happen. The polka dots, balloons and gerber daisies brought it altogether.

We loved being a part of their joyful day. Greg and Kristen are full of love for each other and everyone in their lives. It is so exciting to get to know two people on one of those days where their true colors come out and Kristen and Greg were those people that glowed and their genuine and generous souls were revealed. We know their lives are going to be filled with joy and adventure.

An Outer Banks Wedding :: Alison + Ryan

August 3, 2011  |  Wedding Photography

July 31, 2011 – Dramatic weather made Alison and Ryan’s wedding an exciting and memorable one. Alison, who studied film and now works at National Geographic, was the perfect bride for a wedding day that provided plenty of weather drama. Everyone was worried about the clouds but she knew that it would allow for great photos. Throughout the day Heather Clark from A Premiere Event monitored the radar that was a sea of red and green. They decided to go ahead with their beach wedding at the Kitty Hawk Pier as they planned and luckily only a few dancing drops of rain made an appearance at their ceremony. Shortly after the ceremony, it started pouring which kept us under the pier for the majority of their portraits. We decided to borrow a big blue beach umbrella and did some portraits out in the rain that perfectly captured the beauty and uniqueness of Alison and Ryan’s wedding day.

The great thing about having restrictions like rain is that it forces you to become more creative. We have been so thankful to have such amazing couples to work with like Alison and Ryan. They all have been so excited to let us do “our thing” and so accommodating when sometimes we had crazy ideas for portraits.

Here are some photos from their wedding. Click here to see their gallery on facebook and to tag yourself and others.

Rachel + JC :: An Outer Banks Wedding

August 1, 2011  |  Wedding Photography

July 29, 2011 – Rachel and JC’s wedding at the Kitty Hawk Pier last Friday was on one of the hotest days on the Outer Banks I can remember – 108 degrees with the heat index. Amazingly enough, they were calm and cool all day. Lucky for us we were able to utilize the Kitty Hawk Pier as a refuge from the sun during portraits.

Their love story – Rachel grew up in Virginia and NY and JC grew up in Montana. Work brought them both to Hampton Roads where they sat 10 feet from each other. The Outer Banks was the perfect place to bring together all of their friends and family. They are beautiful people inside and out and that was reflected by all of the people that celebrated with them.

We love when we are given extra time for portraits and Rachel and JC even took some time during their reception to make some beautiful images when the light was amazing – just as the sun was setting. As usual, The Embellishers helped to make a beautiful wedding and the Kitty Hawk Pier House made for a great reception.

Here is a sampling from their beautiful wedding. Feel free to tag yourself and others here in their Facebook gallery.

Kitty Hawk Pier Wedding :: Leslie + Lane

July 4, 2011  |  Wedding Photography

Leslie and Lane were married this weekend at the Kitty Hawk Pier. Their invitations read: Happiness is a summer breeze, the sand between your toes, and your best friend by your side. I think that summed up their wedding perfectly.

I promise never to forget the reason we fell in love, I will stand by your side no matter how rough the waves may get. I will be patient, I will trust you and I will make compromises. I will always do something to bring a little sunshine into our lives. I will support you in remaining as wonderful as you are today while encouraging us to grow together as a family. I will always try something new and not get stuck in the same old routine. I will love you unconditionally as you have always loved me from now until forever.

Weddings in Black and White

June 12, 2011  |  The Creative Process

I realized that we never post weddings in black in white on our blog. I think black images are effective for two reasons – it helps to isolate the emotion and energy in an image and it allows an image to be timeless. If you have seen any of our documentary work, you will know that I shoot most of work in black and white. It’s funny, for weddings I even though we give all of our couples all of their images toned in black and white, I think weddings are so full of life that the color images speak to the vibrancy of that day. With that said, every once in awhile I will know an image will be a black and white image. After I finished editing Adrienne and Matt’s wedding, I knew their wedding could be a wedding that would look equally as good in black and white. With that said, here are some images from their wedding in black and white.

Adrienne + Matt Wedding Film

May 9, 2011  |  Wedding Films

We had so much fun producing this wedding film back in the fall.

After seeing this film again I am reminded of how important great audio is for a great wedding film. There is something about audio from a wedding that is so telling and allows you to go back to that day so vividly. From the vows to getting ready, its the sniffles and pauses that bring you back to that moment. I love hearing the pause when Matt is saying his vows. You can almost feel the tear stream down his face.

Here are some photos from their wedding in October.

2010 Year in Review

January 1, 2011  |  Wedding Photography

I love the start of the new year (today it was 61 and sunny) and looking back at the past year and the great moments. This year has been pretty amazing. Tim was named as an international emerging photographer, Jenn was named a finalist by the Magnum Expression Award, we spoke on a panel at the PDN Expo in NYC, our work was screened at Look Between (an invite-only photo festival), Jenn started shooting a project on a 4×5 large format camera, we traveled around the world for editorial and commercial assignments, and photographed some of the most beautiful weddings on the Outer Banks.

We are so excited for the upcoming year. In addition to some amazing weddings including one in Austria, we will be traveling to Brazil for a month for an editorial client and exhibiting our work in a gallery in California. After looking through all of our images from the last year, here are some of our favorites. Happy New Year! The best is yet to come.

Beach Wedding in Corolla Time-lapse

December 7, 2010  |  Wedding Photography

The ceremony time-lapse is one of our favorite things to shoot and produce. It’s fun and allows couples to see their day from a different and fast-paced perspective. This time-lapse of Adrienne and Matt’s wedding in October shows just how unique a wedding in the Outer Banks can be.

Thanks to the awesome crew at Ocean Atlantic Rentals for the setup on the beach and Gail of The Embellishers for another beautiful wedding.
