Kelley + Nathan :: Kitty Hawk Pier Wedding

September 30, 2012  |  Wedding Photography

Kelley and Nathan found themselves surrounded by family and friends at the always stunning Kitty Hawk Pier house for a wedding on an unseasonably calm and warm day. With the warm September sun shining down the two said their vows to the delight of all in attendance including bystanders watching from the pier up above.

A beautiful day turned into an even better night that included a father daughter dance that Kelley, her dad and their guests will never forget with Kelley surprising her dad by playing a video of her dancing with her dad as a young girl. There wasn’t a dry eye in the pier house. The tears of joy quickly dried and Kelley and Nathan, family and friends went on to have a fun filled night of dancing.

The Sanderling Wedding Photography :: Amy + Jeff

June 28, 2012  |  Wedding Photography

Amy and Jeff’s relationship like all good relationships started as a friendship and from there it grew into more. “To lose her would be to lose everything,” Jeff said about his love for Amy. “It is hard to define love but I know I feel something that I never have felt when I am around Amy and the boys.”

Last weekend, surrounded by family, close friends and two very special young boys, Amy and Jeff became more than just friends – they became a family. Their celebration was filled with tears of a joy and the ocean played a perfect harmony as the two said their vows on a memorable summer day. They turned their wedding into more than a day-long celebration. It became a week-long vacation/celebration for their closest friends and family and The Sanderling proved to be the perfect venue to house all their guests.

Amy and Jeff ended their night dancing not as a couple but as a family with their two boys. We could not have scripted a better ending for the beginning of a new and meaningful chapter in their life.

The Love Booth at Sarah + Ricky’s Wedding

August 16, 2011  |  Wedding Films

The Love Booth is always a hit at weddings but Sarah and Ricky’s guests kicked it up a notch. They ended up taking more than 4,000 images!! I love editing wedding photos the next day but I have to be honest, I dove straight into the photo booth photos to see what gems would show up. And they didn’t disappoint. Its amazing what happens in front of the camera when people have the remote! The photo booth exemplifies the energy that all of Sarah and Ricky’s guests had at their wedding. This was definitely a fun film to edit and hopefully you will have a great time watching it.

Sarah + Ricky :: An Outer Banks – Duck Woods Wedding

August 9, 2011  |  Wedding Photography

August 6, 2011 – Ricky and Sarah had an elegant country club wedding at The Duck Woods County Club on the Outer Banks. Not even a rained out ceremony could dampen the color and energy of their day.

A beautiful ceremony took place inside the country club and by the end of the “I Dos” the rain had cleared and the warm Outer Banks sun was out to greet the new husband and wife. With the last rays of light remaining Tim and I worked in tandem with Tim focusing on getting photos of Ricky and the guys and I captured portraits of Sarah and the bridesmaid. With the sun setting Ricky and Sarah made their way into the reception for what would be a night filled with non-stop dancing and photo booth madness. Proving that no matter rain or shine this was a group that came to celebrate the start to Ricky and Sarah’s love story.

Jenn spent the morning with the girls as they got pampered at Hairoics, while Tim spent the afternoon at the Hilton Inn where Ricky and his groomsmen got ready for the big day. Proving that they were great sports the men got soaked from a decent downpour for portraits under the Kitty Hawk Pier before making their way to the county club for the wedding.

An Outer Banks Wedding :: Alison + Ryan

August 3, 2011  |  Wedding Photography

July 31, 2011 – Dramatic weather made Alison and Ryan’s wedding an exciting and memorable one. Alison, who studied film and now works at National Geographic, was the perfect bride for a wedding day that provided plenty of weather drama. Everyone was worried about the clouds but she knew that it would allow for great photos. Throughout the day Heather Clark from A Premiere Event monitored the radar that was a sea of red and green. They decided to go ahead with their beach wedding at the Kitty Hawk Pier as they planned and luckily only a few dancing drops of rain made an appearance at their ceremony. Shortly after the ceremony, it started pouring which kept us under the pier for the majority of their portraits. We decided to borrow a big blue beach umbrella and did some portraits out in the rain that perfectly captured the beauty and uniqueness of Alison and Ryan’s wedding day.

The great thing about having restrictions like rain is that it forces you to become more creative. We have been so thankful to have such amazing couples to work with like Alison and Ryan. They all have been so excited to let us do “our thing” and so accommodating when sometimes we had crazy ideas for portraits.

Here are some photos from their wedding. Click here to see their gallery on facebook and to tag yourself and others.

Rachel + JC :: An Outer Banks Wedding

August 1, 2011  |  Wedding Photography

July 29, 2011 – Rachel and JC’s wedding at the Kitty Hawk Pier last Friday was on one of the hotest days on the Outer Banks I can remember – 108 degrees with the heat index. Amazingly enough, they were calm and cool all day. Lucky for us we were able to utilize the Kitty Hawk Pier as a refuge from the sun during portraits.

Their love story – Rachel grew up in Virginia and NY and JC grew up in Montana. Work brought them both to Hampton Roads where they sat 10 feet from each other. The Outer Banks was the perfect place to bring together all of their friends and family. They are beautiful people inside and out and that was reflected by all of the people that celebrated with them.

We love when we are given extra time for portraits and Rachel and JC even took some time during their reception to make some beautiful images when the light was amazing – just as the sun was setting. As usual, The Embellishers helped to make a beautiful wedding and the Kitty Hawk Pier House made for a great reception.

Here is a sampling from their beautiful wedding. Feel free to tag yourself and others here in their Facebook gallery.

Leslie + Lane :: Kitty Hawk Pier Wedding Film

July 24, 2011  |  Wedding Films

Every time I edit a wedding film I am reminded how powerful audio truly is. Hearing Leslie’s mom give her speech and say “we love you little girl” as she tears up gets me every time I hear it. Obviously we think photos are strong conveyers of emotion and meaning but when you hear the words of a loved one, it brings you back to that exact moment. In grad school one of our professors always said, “You remember 1/3 of what you read, 1/2 of what people tell you, but 100 percent of what you feel.” Our hope is that Leslie and Lane remember these precious moments for the rest of their lives. Here is their wedding film.

Outer Banks Wedding :: Amber + Justin

July 17, 2011  |  Wedding Photography

Amber and Justin’s wedding at the Kitty Hawk Pier last week was full of color and joy. “These are happy tears,” Amber’s two daughters kept saying throughout the day. We also loved how the pink and green played off each other. They choose kelly green because they were engaged on St. Patty’s Day.

Traveling all the way from Colorado, Amber and Justin’s wedding was a great Outer Banks beach wedding. I love to hear stories about why people choose to have their wedding on the Outer Banks. Justin’s family had been coming ever since his parents honeymooned here. When Justin invited Amber and her two girls to come, it soon became a special place for her too. The Kitty Hawk Pier is the perfect place for couples wanting to have that intimate Outer Banks wedding.

Kitty Hawk Pier Wedding Time-lapse :: Leslie + Lane

July 6, 2011  |  Wedding Films

We love the outcome of all of our wedding time-lapses as they each take on their own personality as the day unfolds. At Leslie and Lane’s wedding, the time-lapse revealed their large beach wedding surrounded by the summer beach goers. Its always fun to see the hypnotizing waves as they crash at the foot of the alter.

Weddings in Black and White

June 12, 2011  |  The Creative Process

I realized that we never post weddings in black in white on our blog. I think black images are effective for two reasons – it helps to isolate the emotion and energy in an image and it allows an image to be timeless. If you have seen any of our documentary work, you will know that I shoot most of work in black and white. It’s funny, for weddings I even though we give all of our couples all of their images toned in black and white, I think weddings are so full of life that the color images speak to the vibrancy of that day. With that said, every once in awhile I will know an image will be a black and white image. After I finished editing Adrienne and Matt’s wedding, I knew their wedding could be a wedding that would look equally as good in black and white. With that said, here are some images from their wedding in black and white.
